Our Los Angeles personal trainer at Train With Danny knows that adopting a new healthy habit can be a challenge. However, doing so can make us feel physically, psychologically, and emotionally better about our choices and the way we feel.
The crucial factor to consider when choosing a healthy new habit is why you are doing it.
Then start the process for the right reasons.
No one should force you to adopt a new habit. Otherwise, the pressure may keep it from sticking. When you are ready, focus on the positive aspects of how your new habit will make you feel. This will allow you to reinforce your decision to do so as you move forward.
Here are a few practical tactics that will allow you to boost your chances of staying on track.
Get Specific About Your New Healthy Habit
Adopting a new healthy habit means something different for everyone, and requires a little preparation to get ready for the change.
For instance, if you want to start eating more vegetables, be specific about what that means to you. If you are currently not eating any vegetables, start introducing a veggie to a single meal each day. You can increase the vegetable count in your meals accordingly, but start slowly and specifically, so you are accomplishing a single goal first. To prepare, stock your refrigerator, freezer, or pantry with veggie options, so you are ready for today, tomorrow, and the days ahead.
If you would like to start exercising, and are not currently participating in any physical activity, schedule three days each week where you go for a walk or enjoy another easy-access movement that does not require any equipment that will hold you back. Get your workout clothes ready, charge your headphones, and design an inspiring playlist to get you fired up for this week’s walks.
No matter what your goal is, take it slow and be flexible.
Acknowledge the circumstances surrounding your new habit and adjust your expectations and plans to keep moving forward. Hang in there — you can do this.
