At Train With Danny, our Los Angeles personal trainer knows that developing healthy training goals does not happen overnight.
We also understand that there is a lot of external pressure to lose weight and get fit, and when people put immense pressure on themselves at the start of the year, it makes it almost impossible to succeed.
Sometimes, the best approach to start anew is to actually start anew.
Here is how.
Tip #1: Try a New Way of Training
Lack of motivation and fitness plateaus can happen to all of us. When it does, it makes it that much harder to work out.
Trying a new form of training or exercise each week can help to keep things fresh.
Whether it is choosing a new machine at the gym or taking a class you otherwise would not have participated in, changing your routine can help keep your body guessing and, subsequently, progressing.
Tip #2 Be More Consistent with Your Training
There are often multiple reasons people struggle with training consistently.
Work, family, travel, and an overall busy schedule can all interrupt our training schedules.
To train more consistently, be realistic about what you can accomplish, and modify your training options when something unexpected happens.
If you only have a half-hour, go for a quick run, or focus on strength training. When you have more time, participate in a full-body workout. The key is to consistently keep moving.
Tip #3: Understand Your Reason for Getting Healthier
When you know why you are training, you can focus on the goal.
Do you want to lose weight? Get stronger? Be healthier?
Knowing what drives you and keeps you going is powerful. Take time to understand what that is, so you can visualize it and achieve it.
Tip #4: Stretch, Meditate & Focus
Stretching in the morning and before bed at night allows you to reset the body at the most important times of the day.
Meditate when you have a few minutes of alone time, whether it is in your office, in the locker room, in a parked car, or before a meal, so you can block out the negative energy and reset your mind.
Focus on your daily activities by making a to-do list, so you can visualize your goals and pursue them using time management skills to stay motivated.
Tip #5 Reward Yourself
One motivating factor to develop healthy training goals is to reward yourself for sticking to the plan.
Keep your rewards healthy by buying a new pair of leggings, a sports bra, or recovery boosters that can help you relax.
